Franz Mangel is a photographer from Bavaria, rooted in Southern Germany and Munich, with a perspective that reaches far beyond. As a child, he lived in the United States for several years, later moving through Berlin, New York and Mexico City. Today, he is back in Germany. The camera has always been more than a tool – it is his access to the world. Without it, many encounters would never have happened, many paths never taken.
His decision to become a photographer came early, sparked by his first encounter with the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson at the age of 19. He went on to study cinematography in Berlin and later spent time at the International Center of Photography in New York. What matters most to him, however, is continuous practice: creativity is shaped through seeing, experiencing, and constant movement.
