HBO Europe Picks Up German Drama ‘Babylon Berlin’ - DOP PHILIPP HABERLANDT c/o BITE MGMT
“Babylon Berlin.” follows Gereon Rath, a police officer from Cologne working in Berlin. Volker Bruch (“Generation War”) and Liv Lisa Fries (“The Wave”) star. It is produced by X Filme, ARD Degeto, Sky and Beta Film. ARD as well as linear broadcasters worldwide will launch the show next year. DOP was PHILIPP HABERLANDT c/o BITE MGMT.

"HBO Europe has acquired big-budget German period drama “Babylon Berlin.” Beta Film distributes the upcoming series, which is set in Berlin in the roaring 1920s, and has sealed deals across Europe. Telefonica has acquired the show for Spain, and Group AB has snagged the rights for France. Scandinavian pubcasters DR in Denmark, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, and YLE in Finland have all bought the series. Netflix had already secured “Babylon Berlin” for the U.S. and Australia and New Zealand. Sky has it in Germany, Italy, and the U.K. Beta Film said it has sold the show into 60 territories. The series is a landmark in German-language drama in terms of its $47 million budget and its ambition. The first episodes will premiere in Cannes, at Mipcom, next week.
