For their latest R&D project, MONDLICHT STUDIOS drew inspiration from an unexpected design field: the bank cards of international fintech brand Revolut. Its so-called Card Art has gained attention in recent years - Revolut experiments boldly with materials, textures and visual effects, ranging from metal finishes to holographic surfaces and limited artist editions.
This experimental design approach sparked Mondlicht’s interest. Rather than replicating existing cards, the team developed an independent series of material studies – created with Houdini, Redshift and Photoshop. At the heart of the project are simulations, visual exploration and a creative approach to surfaces more commonly found in product design than in CGI.
