‘I dance because ...’ – Elena Psalti & Raffaella Campeggi, both artists c/o SHOTVIEW ARTISTS MANAGEMENT, style for the YSL BEAUTÉ Waacking spot by Director Paolo Zambaldi

All genders, all orientations, no categories. Beauty should not compete... For the filmed pamphlet for diversity by Director Paolo Zambaldi for the client YSL BEAUTÉ, Elena Psalti & Raffaella Campeggi, both artists c/o SHOTVIEW ARTISTS MANAGEMENT, were responsible for styling of the dancers. Waacking presented here is a very personal and political liberating dance to distance oneself from outdated, conservative concepts of society.

“When I waack, I feel like I am the best version of myself. It destroys all potential ‘walls’ which might hold me back and I feel free to express myself.” says Viktor Bukovy, dancer in the spot. And we gladly also quote dancer @gabrielle_sade here on GoSee.NEWS : “I express the fact that I am a cisgender bisexual woman and am fully honest about it and not putting myself into any box. I can dress however I like, speak however I want, walk the way that I want without caring how people will look at me.”

Mariana Benenge, artist and dancer adds : “Waacking brings together the community, with a message of freedom: love yourself. When we organize waacking battles, or jams, people can feel the emotion between us. You can see joy, sadness, opulence or drama!​ All this real emotion.”

Waacking is a form of street dance, invented in the LGBT clubs of Los Angeles during the disco era of the 1970s. The style is typical for the disco music of the time and is characterized mainly by rotating arm movements and its expressive attitude.
