The subtle difference. A. Lange & Söhne, founded in 1845, is today the registered trademark of German watch manufacturing company Lange Uhren GmbH from Glashütte in Saxony. A. Lange & Söhne had existed exactly 103 years until 1948, when the company was expropriated by the Soviet occupiers. Until that time, the sons of Emil Lange, named Otto, Rudolf and Gerhard, conducted the business of the company. More than 30 watch patents were issued under Ferdinand Adolf Lange and his descendants.
On 7 December 1990 – exactly 145 years to the day after it was first founded by his great-grandfather – 66-year-old Walter Lange founded Lange Uhren GmbH as a new watch manufacturing company and subsequently acquired the title to the trademark A. Lange & Söhne.
