“For Hennessy Cognac, I visited Julien Colombier while he was working in his studio. Julien painted a picture over the course of three days which was later used for the packaging design of VSOP Hennessy Cognac. I had the pleasure of watching Julien painting and photographing during these three days.
Always a bit difficult because you are very close together in a small space with someone who is not necessarily used to it. You try to get in the way as little as possible, watch what’s going on, and then you have to have perfect timing to take the photo you’ve been waiting for before the moment is gone. It takes time, the trust of the artist and, of course, the client.
I enjoy commissions like these that are less hectic, take place peacefully and still require the utmost concentration and attention to capture the mood, the work method and personality of the artist.” Götz GÖPPERT c/o ANDREA HEBERGER.
Born in 1972, Julien Colombier lives and works in Paris. As a self-taught painter, he works mainly with acrylic and pastel oil paint. He is strongly influenced by the world of graffiti, Japanese art, Matisse and Keith Haring. His artistic world is dreamlike, magical and disturbing all at the same time. Its full of jungles and colorful tropical forests in which the artist obsessively repeats his patterns to create his very own hypnotic-organic realm. Julien collaborates regularly with big brands such as Cartier 2015 or Chanel.
