Popular German actor Benno Fürmann lost his mom when he was only seven, and his father at fifteen. He had a severe accident while subway surfing at the age of seventeen, because of which he had to spend six weeks in the hospital. He concluded his education with an intermediate certificate in secondary school while attending the boarding school Ernst-Kalkuhl-Gymnasium in Bonn. Afterwards, he took on odd jobs in construction, as a bouncer and scene-shifter.

As an avid reciter, he decided to go into acting and received his first minor role in the TV movie ‘Die zweite Heimat – Chronik einer Jugend’. In 1991, he went to New York where he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He made his breakthrough in 2000 at the side of Franka Potente as psychopathic med student Hein in the film ‘Anatomy’. He then had his Hollywood debut in 2003 in Brian Helgeland’s ‘The Order’ alongside Heath Ledger. Benno Fürmann is the father of a daughter and lives in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. The star actor, now nearly fifty, shares anecdotes from his life with ZEIT magazine : “There was a lot going on.”
