Stephen Shames (born 1947 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American photojournalist who has been raising awareness about social issues for nearly 60 years, focusing particularly on child poverty and racism. In 2010, he was honored as a Purpose Prize Fellow by Encore.org, primarily for his work supporting AIDS orphans and former child soldiers in Africa. His works have been published and exhibited internationally and are part of the collections of prestigious institutions such as the MoMA in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the George Eastman Museum, the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
