HR Giger by Camille Vivier - a unique visual stroll through the fantastic world of the artist and Oscar winner (Scheidegger & Spiess)

Artist and designer HR Giger (1940–2014), creator of the legendary monster in Ridley Scott’s movie Alien and numerous other environments, is currently experiencing a renaissance. His oeuvre is presented and honored in exhibitions as well as in magazines and newspapers. This book now offers never-before-seen comprehensive insight into Giger’s atelier and garden, both of which are populated by biomechanical sculptures, airbrush paintings, Alien furniture, objects, prints, and self-portraits.

French photographer Camille Vivier – who became known for her work for Stella McCartney and Cartier – enjoyed exclusive access to the artist’s home in Zurich-Seebach for this book, where she worked on her own as well as with models in a series of photo sessions.

The book with around 200 large-format photographs is an atmospheric homage to the unmistakable representative of Fantastic Realism. In addition to the various moods in Giger’s atelier and his life-size sculptures, Vivier has also documented about a hundred objects and works of art, as well as his famous Alien-style garden railroad, with Alien motifs. An essay by French publicist Farbrice Paineu places HR Giger’s art in the wider context of pop culture and the genre of horror movies.

Camille Vivier, born in Paris in 1977, has been navigating the intersection of art and fashion since the beginning of her career as a photographer. Her images are published in magazines such as Purple Mag, i-D, and Dazed & Confused. Among her clients are international fashion designers and luxury brands such as Stella McCartney, Martin Margiela, Isabel Marant, and Cartier.
