URBAN LANDSCAPES as projections of ‘Inner Landscapes’ : Jonas Dahlström ‘07:27:47’ presents an equally meditative and aesthetic mix of light, shadow and architecture, appearing with 76 duplex photos at Kerber Publishing
For his new book 07:27:47, Swedish photographer Jonas Dahlström examined urban environments. With the immediacy of street photography, he captured their beauty in a continuous sequence of images taking place during exactly 12 hours. Focusing on the interaction of light, shadows, and architecture, the aesthetics of his stunning photographs are strict, clear, and minimalist. Regardless, these external landscapes can be read as “internal landscapes” projected outwards. They tell a tale of fragility, loneliness, and isolation of human existence holding out against such anonymous, concrete habitats.
“All of the images were made in Sweden during 2016-2020. Together, they form a sequence that takes place during 12 hours. Throughout this project, I have tried to capture the aesthetics that arise in the interaction between light, shadows and architecture, but the images can also be seen as a reflection on human existence in an anonymous, urban environment.” says Jonas Dahsltröm.
Somewhere along the way of his exploration, Dahlström started to ask himself why it had become so important for him to take these photos, and that was when he realized the exterior landscapes which he had set out to capture were just as much a visualization of inner landscapes. “The lens of my camera enabled me to see these internal contours materialize more and more against the backdrop of the cityscape. An emotional state projected onto the streets and walls of the external world.”
