RAINBOW WOOL is the first collection made from the wool of gay sheep, supporting LGBTQIA+ projects worldwide. The project receives prominent backing from Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz, who adds his touch to the campaign, photographed by Steve Marais c/o 70SEVEN, featuring haute couture looks by Danny Reinke and Kilian Kerner. The shoot took place at a sheep farm in Central Germany, where Michael and Jochen, the gay farmers of the farm Stücke, keep their gay sheep on the most beautiful piece of land in the region.
"In everyday breeding, gay rams are sent to the slaughterhouse because they don't fit their role on the farm. The good news is, we were able to save a few of them from this unfortunate fate: Our gay sheep now live the rest of their lives on a small farm where they are finally free to love whoever they want. From now on, their wool will be used to create products that support the global queer community," says RAINBOW WOOL.
"From the very beginning, it was crucial for us that Rainbow Wool could not be exploited for 'rainbow-washing'. We make sure that our partners are not using this project for self-promotion or image enhancement but are solely focused on advancing the mission of the project. This is why we have worked closely with the queer community every step of the way, and thoroughly checked if our partners are already advocates for queer rights and actively promote Diversity & Inclusion."
