Francesc Miralles – the Catalan author, essayist and musician in a heroic portrait by ANKE LUCKMANN

Francesc Miralles (born 1968 in Barcelona) is a journalist, novel author, translator and musician. Numerous of his novels and non-fiction works are international best sellers. Today, he is at home in his favorite city Barcelona – where Anke Luckmann met up with him for an unusual portrait. The photographer staged the creative above the clouds in the heart of the Catalan capital.

Francesc Miralles is a fan of dark and frightening settings, which is also reflected in his novel ‘Retrum’. He was inspired to write the story ‘Retrum’ by the song ‘When we were dead’ by his band Nikosia, which we learn at Lovely Books. Besides his work as a screenplay writer and author, Francesc’s great passion is music. His novels for youths and adults have been awarded several prizes in Spain. ‘Retrum’, which contains many parallels to Francesc’s own adolescence, caused a proper hype in Spain.

Together with Héctor García, he published the book ‘Ikigai’ about the secret to a long life. According to the Japanese, every person has an Ikigai. Ikigai is what makes it worthwhile to get out of bed in the morning, or simply: the meaning of life. The book has been translated into 60 languages and made it onto the best seller lists in the US, the UK, Holland and Turkey. His feel-good novel ‘Love in small letters’ has been translated into 27 languages.
