A male PLAYBOY Bunny was photographed by ESTHER HAASE upon invitation of PLAYBOY magazine for its anniversary issue. Gabrielle Theurer c/o BASICS BERLIN was in charge of makeup of male model Tim Reimann. In 1972, the first international issue of PLAYBOY was published in Germany – a men’s magazine which had meanwhile long become legendary in the US and beyond.
PLAYBOY: Esther Haase has portrayed heads of state such as Angela Merkel and fashion icons the likes of Karl Lagerfeld or Vivienne Westwood, and exhibits her work in museums around the world. With her anniversary cover, she would like to show how things have changed since the German edition of Playboy first appeared in 1972. “The way in which we view gender is changing, which begs the question : Is what we perceive to be sexy also changing?” Exploring this photographically – for instance, also by examining the feminine side of men – tempted her, she tells us. “I wanted to break taboos, experiment, raise questions and certainly also provoke a little, too. With whom could I have done it better than with Tim, my muse?”
