The agent JULIA WALDMANN has a keen eye for photographers navigating the intersection between advertising and editorial. Here on GoSee, she presents her exciting new entry Chiara BONETTI – a self-taught photographer and director who works in both Rome and Berlin.
During a trip to Mexico, the Italian photographer and filmmaker was taken by a friend to Salón Los Ángeles – one of the last remaining dance halls in Mexico City. It was there that she first discovered the vibrant world of Danzón. For three years, Chiara documented people in Mexico City who are keeping this traditional dance form alive.
“My work focuses on cultural nuances and seldom-documented communities, exploring identity, memories, traditions, and rituals often on the verge of vanishing in the rush to modernity. True, tangible character-focused stories emerge from my lens, seamlessly blending the mediums of photography and video as my storytelling tools,” says Chiara BONETTI.
