Photographer Philipp Mueller, born in Switzerland, captured the attention of the jury with his spread about the flea market in St. Ouen. “I’ve lived in Paris for 20 years, and I like to think that I know my home away from home. But still, it holds so many surprises even after such a long time. When I was called to photograph portraits for a project at the flea market in St. Ouen, on the city limits of Paris, I was immediately on board. There is one little corner of the flea market which successfully fends off the attacks of our modern day and age. This world is in danger, because the town is attractive for the upcoming Olympics.
The investors are already at the doorstep – just like the Romans once at the gates of the little Gaulish village with the ever so popular hero with the mustache. Which is why it was so important for me to capture this special place for eternity. First and foremost, to capture the people who have grown together with the flea market in their habitat.” We have the photos for you on GoSee.
