The stilwerk Strandhotel in Blankenese with color-blocking looks - interior photos by Brita SÖNNICHSEN c/o NERGER M&O

The interior of the boutique hotel, with 12 studios in the main building and three suites in the captain’s house, was carefully curated by stilwerk, fusing modern history and architectural finesse into one. The color palette, from dusty blue to sandy yellow, is inspired by the rugged surroundings, while natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship define the hotel’s interior concept.

The color-blocking look in different combinations for each hotel room creates a vibrant ambiance. After all, “Interior has to be fun, too,” says designer Karlotta Bott.

Photographer Brita SÖNNICHSEN c/o NERGER M&O shot the interior photos presented here, with styling by Yvonne Lindhorst.

The design hotel is a historic Art Nouveau villa in the elegant Blankenese district, 20 minutes from Hamburg city center: “The stilwerk Strandhotel on the banks of the Elbe in Blankenese has everything you need to take a moment to unwind. Conveniently nestled between bustling city life and serene seclusion, it is an inspiring place designed for your well-being. The listed villa from 1902 shines in clear white against the picturesque backdrop of the Blankenese Stairs District, an urban area that is unique in Hamburg with its Mediterranean flair, grand villas, and picturesque fishermen’s cottages,” we quote Stilwerk.

For more than 25 years, stilwerk has been shaping the interior design world in Germany as a platform for design, art, culture, and lifestyle. The credo of stilwerk is: “We curate inspiring spaces.” The concept skillfully combines design destinations in Düsseldorf and Hamburg with two boutique hotels in the Hanseatic city.

The first hotel – the stilwerk Hotel Heimhude, aka the ‘Grande Dame in Sneakers’ – opened in 2020 and is located in the heart of Hamburg’s city center: an Art Nouveau villa amid grand mansions that skillfully blends the unique charm of the historic building with an interior design collage fusing elements old and new.

The stilwerk Strandhotel Blankenese, aka the ‘Mysterious Lady in White’ – is another very special place in Hamburg: nestled directly on a natural beach by the Elbe River. A historic structure dating back to the early 20th century that has been revitalized in this new form.
