The fashion designers of the future are taking their social responsibility seriously. At the Parsons School of Design in New York, they learn to provide food for thought through their craft. ICON MAGAZINE with Silvia Ihring, Style Editor At Large, took a look at it on location while Esther Haase photographed. Among the graduates is German designer Marlene Haase, who is also the photographer’s daughter.
Parsons, one of the most renowned educational institutions of the fashion industry, from which Proenza Schouler, Donna Karan or Marc Jacobs have graduated, offers a master studies program by the name ‘Fashion Design and Society’ whose main focus on the connection between fashion and society is particularly relevant in our day and age.
Only a few months before the fourteen students from Haase’s graduating class present their final collections to an examination committee and at the New York Fashion Week, they are busy working with laser focus in the workrooms of the Parsons location near Union Square.
Esther Haase : “For me, it was a very exciting trip to New York and so inspiring to photograph and speak to all these great young designers about their work, future and ideas during their final exams. Congratulations to all of you! I spent a wonderful week with you! It was so interesting to talk to you and get all these impressions and ideas behind your Master collections. Thank you for giving me such an up-close look at your thoughts!”
