Exclusively on GoSee, the photographer Duo from WE! shoot it, Michael Compensis and Thomas von Salomon, c/o KELLY KELLERHOFF present you ‘CROW’, the Pininfarina Battista Project’, personal work in cooperation with GoSee Member ZERONE.
“In ‘CROW’, we wanted to leave visual conventions behind and consciously break down the border between virtuality and reality,” the two transportation specialists tell GoSee. The long-term project was preceded by an intensive phase of planning and conception. Look and color lighting, as well as architecture and vehicle, were realized together with ZERONE in full CGI. And transition from virtual to the familiar is seamless.
Despite the expressly surreal-virtual look & feel of the spread, and purposely so, the duo decided to photograph the people elements afterwards for real images (model: Elmar c/o Sevens, styling: Sabine Holderer, make-up: Jasmin Meier).
“When we integrated the model, we consciously combined flash with continuous lighting to achieve a very special appearance ranging between sharp details and the smudged aesthetic of lower shutter speeds. The balancing act of transferring this look to the 3D parts was realized to perfection by our partners from Zerone,” they tell us about their work in the studio. “This has the deliberate effect that the full CGI backplates permeate into the image of the photographed real model to a certain extent.”
To create a multimedia experience with the content, the two photographers used parts of the spread for moving images, in which once again the deliberate but unusual effect of the final result is somewhere between still and moving images. “We then integrated the moving elements ourselves in the end in order to finalize the spread.”
