Summer in Italy is a magical time. People flock to the seaside from all over to enjoy the summer days at their ‘bagnio’, a typical Italian beach. Often going to the same for generations, to which they develop a deep connection.
People soak up the sun, feel the salty sea water on their skin while enjoying a sense of freedom. The sound of children laughing cheerfully in the background, they strike up a conversation with old friends and discover new faces. Life is celebrated together, memories are shared with fresh ones in the making. There’s a light and carefree feeling in the air – la dolce vita.
Robert photographed the entrances of bagnios. As entirely plain and understated they may appear, they are for many the very gate to great happiness and associated with so many emotions.
Besides his commercial work, mainly in the areas of transportation and people, the Stuttgarter regularly photographs artistic, documentary works on topics that spark his interest.
