It was time to take a trip to the coast… The editorial ‘Facing the Ocean’ was photographed by MAX VON TREU for Mr ICON in Portugal. To be precise, at the trendsetting Casa da Chá in Porto.
The restaurant Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, built on a rocky cliff in Leça da Palmeira, is the ambitious project of star-studded Chef Rui Paula, who is dedicated, like hardly anyone else, to the modern cuisine of Portugal.
Thanks to the creative culinary concept and quality of service, Casa de Chá da Boa Nova shines radiantly in the Michelin sky – having won its first Michelin star in 2016, followed by its second in 2019 under the direction of Chef Rui Paula.
The singularity of the building which houses the restaurant remains a paradigm of architectural insertion into an exceptional landscape. Brainchild of architectural genius Pritzker Siza Vieira, the property is one of the most emblematic works of the renowned architect. Born from rocks, hand in hand with the sea, it is designated as a national monument and can be visited upon prior arrangement through the House of Architecture.
We present you the men’s fashion spread including a film – both from the hands of Max von Treu.

About MAX VON TREU
It was at the tender age of six when he was given his first snapshot-camera that Max von Treu, born in Munich in 1979, started showing interest in photography. Things got a little more serious when he got his first proper camera at the age of 17. It was love at first sight and a never ending array of snap shots, taken during early travels around the world. After graduating in Munich, Max decided to move to London to study mixed media arts at the University of Westminster. His main focus was filmmaking at first and it was only after he finished his studies and while assisting various fashion photographers that he discovered his passion for fashion and portrait photography. His professional career as a fashion photographer began when he was 25. Max is currently based in Berlin and Munich shooting for clients around the world.
