ANNA SCHROLL is an industrial and scientific photographer. She captures both corporate themes and works with clients in the fields of medicine and research. "The central theme of my work is people in their work environment: sometimes in the research lab, sometimes at the CNC machine. I value the authentic atmosphere and the insight into the diverse worlds of work," says Anna. Her base is Jena in Germany, a global hub of the optical industry, home to companies like Carl Zeiss, Schott, and Jenoptik.
In 2025, the Leibniz-HKI dedicated its annual calendar to the theme "Faces of Science 2025," focusing on the staff. For each month, there is a portrait photo. Additionally, the linked website features an interview and reportage images from the scientists' daily work – without their commitment and expertise, scientific progress would not be possible. "It was a great honor for me to photograph the calendar. What I especially appreciated was that the scientists were not only photographed in their labs but also had the opportunity to appear as private individuals – sometimes as a musician, a passionate baker, or a plant enthusiast," says Anna.
The focus of research at Leibniz-HKI is the connection between microbial natural products and infection biology, particularly human-pathogenic fungi. With this calendar, the institute would like to express its gratitude to its staff – for their passion, creativity, and tireless dedication, which make Leibniz-HKI what it is.
