Sven Jacobsen is getting us in the mood for the upcoming summer with his new photo book ‘Like Birds’. With the same lightness with which he photographs large campaigns, Sven also realizes his fine art series with a pinch of humor. The hardcover book bound in linen is appearing at Hatje Cantz on 15 April, 2021. It will be available via the publishing company, in book stores, and of course, on the website www.svenjacobsen.com.
Hatje Cantz presents the book as follows : “The photo book LIKE BIRDS by photographer Sven Jacobsen with texts by Joachim Meyerhoff and Nadine Barth takes us back to a carefree time of youthful self-discovery, to a summer full of adventure. In their immediacy, a timeless dimension develops in his photographs of youngsters experimenting, exuberantly jumping into the water, clambering around on fences, poles and dunes, being silly, kissing, skateboarding, or simply lying in the tall grass. In the process, the lakes, dunes, or apartments depicted become places in a collective memory.
The spherical landscapes captured in this way – the snapshots of free youth with its beauty, its chaos, its silence, and its loudness – quickly develop a narrative pull. What seems like a light-hearted summer snapshot on the surface may suddenly touch deeper layers of the subconscious.”
Exhibitions on ‘Like Birds’ are planned for Summer 2021, at Circle Culture Gallery in Hamburg and Berlin.
