Redesigned from the inside out – When TheFacebook, later renamed, started out back in 2004, it changed the very way people get in touch, keep in touch and communicate with one another. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp have opened up greater possibilities for billions of people all over the world.
Meanwhile renamed yet again to Meta Platforms, aka Meta, the company has left the confines of 2D monitors to provide more immersive experiences, such as augmented, virtual and mixed reality, to help shape the next evolution of social tech: “Our products empower more than three billion people around the world to share ideas and offer support.”

Meta Quest is a division of virtual reality headsets developed by Meta. The devices are based on the brand Oculus Quest from Oculus VR, which is now Reality Labs and part of Meta. In March 2014, Oculus was acquired by Facebook, Inc. (today Meta Platforms, Inc.) for 2.3 billion U.S. dollars in cash and shares of FB stock.
In October, 2021, Facebook, Inc. announced changing the company name to Meta and that the brand name Oculus was to be discontinued starting in 2022. Meta’s Reality Labs business and research unit is the successor of Oculus VR in the area of virtual reality, and Meta Quest is its headset brand.
