With strokes of the brush by Jan Bajtlik, the 2024 Mazda2 Hybrid 2024 is redefining urban mobility and reimagining a fascinating landscape.

For its latest campaign, Mazda invited Polish artist Jan Bajtlik to reimagine the natural habitat of the Mazda2 Hybrid: the city. In his unique visual style, inspired by Japanese art and craftsmanship, Jan creates vibrant cityscapes just waiting to be explored with the fuel-efficient, safe and agile Mazda2 Hybrid.

Photos were shot by GoSee Member Patrik Johäll c/o B&A REPS GERMANY (Producer: Anna Grahm, PM: Anna Johäll c/o SUPERSTUDIO), and the Director / DOP responsible was Andreas Nilsson.

Creative responsibility was in the hands of Scholz & Friends with CDs Francis Cazal, Sven Klasen and André Huber, as well as Head of Art Buying Kerstin Mende. Client-side support for the campaign came from Kirsten Versijde (Coordinator Marketing Assets), Matthias Kasperek (Team Leader Marketing Assets) and Gustave Djon Toug (Brand Style team).

For the creative collaboration, Jan stays true to his craftsmanship: hands-on, in monochrome, and focusing on simplicity of forms, aligning seamlessly with Mazda’s Japanese identity. He captures the essence of numerous cities and pours them into modern structures brought to life through computer-generated imagery (CGI).

In preparation, Jan visited the Mazda headquarters in Hiroshima: “The team’s stringent philosophy and attention to detail amazed me,” Jan recalls. “I still remember how the creative director showed me a taillight proposed at the beginning of the design process. For them, it lacked the human touch: putting your hand on it would not feel perfectly natural. And although the design was only modified by millimeters here and there in the end, this detail seemed just as crucial to them as a working engine. This brought home to me what 'Crafted in Japan' means to them.”
