Zooming In on YSL's Y Perfume - A Personal Photography Project by stills specialist QUENTIN DÉCAILLET

Capturing the essence of a product is about more than showcasing its full form—it’s about discovering the story hidden in its details. For this personal project, photographer QUENTIN DÉCAILLET focused on YSL’s iconic Y perfume bottle, challenging himself to highlight the subtle textures, intricate angles, and luxurious design without ever revealing the full product.

"Through careful attention to light, reflection, and transparency, I aimed to emphasize the artistry behind each contour, elevating the understated elements that make this bottle so visually striking. This approach allowed me to explore how details can convey sophistication, luxury, and intrigue, turning a simple object into a visual narrative.

Projects like this remind me of the power of light, framing, and design in creating captivating imagery. Each detail serves as an opportunity to celebrate craftsmanship and refinement, capturing the spirit of luxury in every shot." Quentin Décaillet, photographer.

NEW at GoSee : QUENTIN DÉCAILLET, Stills, Swiss Alps; We show you his personal work 'Beauty in the Smallest Details ' which captures the journey of an ant on a Dior lipstick

NEW at GoSee is QUENTIN DÉCAILLET, a product and beauty photographer based in the Swiss Alps, whose job often takes him to Lausanne, Geneva and Paris. He sees his work as a bridge between technical precision and artistic narrative. About the series shown here, Quentin says :

"Finding inspiration isn’t always easy. There are times when you want to create, but the ideas just don’t come. Over the past few years, I’ve found that going back to my childhood memories, emotions, and experiences has been one of the most powerful sources of inspiration. This series is a great example.

I was looking at this beautiful Dior lipstick, trying to come up with an idea… but nothing. I tried scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, but they no longer inspire me. They’re great when you're starting out, but I’ve come to realize that true inspiration doesn’t come from imitation. So, I stepped outside to clear my head, into my garden, where I started observing the insects, just as I did when I was a child.

That’s when it hit me: Why are insects often seen as ugly, gross, or even scary? Why not let others see the beauty I see in them? The thought lingered: Would people appreciate them more if they wore makeup or donned a fancy outfit, just like we do? These images were born from this playful reflection on beauty, perception, and finding inspiration in the unexpected. They were shot using a real ant (a rather large one) found in my garden.

No CGI, AI, or composite was used to create these photographs." Quentin Décaillet, photographer.

Quentin's path to photography began in New York, where he discovered art, creativity and technology bundled in the medium of photography. His style features a meticulous approach to lighting and a graphic elegance that highlights the essence of his subjects. With black and dark shades as central elements in many of his visual compositions, Quentin's images stand out with their bold contrasts and refined details.

Over the years, Quentin has collaborated with esteemed clients such as MAC Cosmetics, Nespresso, Koenig & Bauer, and Mizensir. His work is known for conveying both the character and the story behind each product, making it distinctive in the competitive landscape of beauty and product photography.
