SILVER GRAPES : Post production of the campaign for the ZDFneo science program ‘MAITHINK X – the Show’ for photographer Jens Koch and Serviceplan

SILVER GRAPES developed the campaign motifs for the new ZDFneo program ‘MAITHINK X – the Show’. Presenter and scientific journalist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim was photographed by celebrity & portrait specialist Jens Koch. The agency was Serviceplan - House of Communication.

In ‘MAITHINK X – the Show’, Dr. Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim explores the cultural and political landscape from her scientific perspective – and does so with an in-depth, serious and humorous approach. She focuses on controversial, emotionally charged issues.

A star-studded cast for the BMW BIG Picture shoot for BMW i4 & iX – with post production in the hands of SILVER GRAPES, Berlin

Berlin-based post production company SILVER GRAPES had the pleasure of accompanying photographer Jens Koch during the BMW BIG Picture shoot for the iX and i4 in Munich. Two great days at the BMW Group Classic, the division of the BMW Group located since 2016 in Munich’s Am Riesenfeld district and the go-to address for classic vehicles of the BMW Group.

In front of the camera for the Big Picture shoot stood celebs Hans Zimmer, Brooklyn Beckham, Nyjah Huston, Gemma Styles, Luka Sabbat, Lena Gercke, Steve Aoki, DJ Khalid, Zoe Wees, and Russell Tovey. What they have in common? They are all on team iX and i4, the BMW automobiles developed for the electric age. Because the new models stand for a “new generation of electric driving pleasure,” according to BMW.

The BMW Group Classic is the branch of the BMW Group responsible for all activities concerning the history of the company and its four brands BMW, BMW Motorrad, MINI, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It comprises BMW Museum, BMW Group Classic Services and BMW Group Archive.

New at GoSee is post production company SILVER GRAPES from Berlin, which was founded by Carina Fiehn and Philipp Hochgesand, who have not only worked hand-in-hand for many years – they are also privately a dream team. We are delighted to introduce them here on GoSee with a selection of latest works. And took the opportunity for a short interview :

Tell us a bit about your background : “Philipp studied Graphic Design in London, Carina Communication Design in Hamburg. After graduating, we both immediately started working at ZERONE (Philipp 2004, Carina 2012). That’s also where we met and soon noticed that we not only clicked professionally. We are specialized in high-end post production for campaigns and ads in the area of transportation.”

What made you found your own agency? “Since we were used to working as a team independently, the idea of founding our own business was the logical consequence. It was all good… So we decided to do so in 2020.”

How did you come up with the wonderful name? “It took us a while. First and foremost, we wanted it to sound good. We wanted everyone who hears the name to immediately have a strong image in their mind’s eye. Because images are ultimately what our job and we are all about. And we wanted the name to reflect our quality and our work. When it comes to images, we invent quite a lot in our work. We create things that don’t exist yet. Pretty much like silver grapes…

Even at the risk of disappointing some of you – they really don’t exist – but you still get the picture. What it means for our job : We can make the impossible possible. Create something beautiful. Photographer Simon Puschmann told us once that the name reminded him of the silver plates used in the early years of photography. We’re quite okay with that.”

What can clients expect from you? In four words? “Service, creativity, experience and high quality.”

What distinguishes you particularly? “Our ambition to do impeccable work. We have loads of fun doing what we do and want to get the most out of each and every project. We love developing looks and producing amazing results in close cooperation with our clients. We have great chemistry as a team, and we’re on the same wavelength. That makes us particularly effective.”

Why would you say clients book you? “We think on our feet and deliver an all-inclusive, no-worries package. All from a single source. Post production, on-location support, creation and delivery of proofs, art direction. On bigger projects, we work with 617 Digital, a creative network which also allows us to offer CGI and motion. We are then in charge of communication and quality assurance.”

Creative retouch, compositing, beauty retouch, CGI … Do you have special skills which make you unique? “Since our roots are in high-end post production for automotive advertising, we are quite seasoned in complex compositing, CGI integration and everything related. Plus, we have expanded our area of expertise a bit… Working very closely, for example, with celebrity & portrait photographer Jens Koch has enabled us to hone our skills in the areas of people and portraiture. We will accompany Jens to the Berlinale for the second time next year to do star portraits. We work there over the course of ten days, with laser focus, developing looks, retouching, creating layouts and printing.”

What makes you especially happy? “Zero or hardly any corrections.” (note from the editor: We can hear them laughing softly in the distance.)
